ANOTHER STEP TO ENCOURAGE INDEPENDENT LIVING
For more than 50 years, the Llars de l’Amistat Cheshire Foundation has been supporting the well-being and autonomy of people with physical dependence. In 2012, with the aim of updating and improving its services, the Foundation transformed the Sant Jordi cardiovascular clinic into the MICs Sant Jordi Centre.
The Independent Living Modules (MICs) are adapted, assisted apartments designed for dependent people who, either alone or as a family, wish to have to a high degree of independence and social and occupational integration. The MICs Sant Jordi Centre makes this life project possible, providing adapted apartments with 24-hour care support within the building itself.
There are 32 apartments in total, each with 1 or 2 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a fully adapted bathroom. All are outward-facing and many have a small terrace. In addition, the Centre has the necessary technical equipment to be able to adapt the apartment to the possible needs of the users, such as a transfer hoist, trapeze, bed rails, bath chair, among others, and users have access to 24-hour care support provided by a team of professional carers. Users have access to 24-hour care support provided by a team of professional carers. The facility also has a gymnasium, therapeutic pool, multipurpose room, and a restaurant with terrace.
The apartments are located in Sarrià, a quiet residential neighbourhood in Barcelona, which is well connected and close to shopping areas such as the L’Illa Diagonal shopping centre. Right outside the apartments is an accessible FGC train station, part of the Barcelona metro network.
MICs Sant Jordi is aimed at two customer profiles. The apartments are for people who need an adapted, temporary residence in Barcelona while having medical treatment or for convalescence, for work or study reasons, or simply to enjoy a weekend in the city as a tourist. On the other hand, there is also the possibility of being a permanent residence in one of the available apartments. The apartments can also serve as a permanent residence, allowing the user to personalise and furnish the apartment however they wish, as they would their own home, and at the same time avail of the facilities and care services provided by the Centre.
Together with the merger of two concepts, apartments with assistance services, the Foundation carries out an endavant project that aims to provide services for people with dependencies, in order to promote living an independent life, thanks to your more 50 years of experience in the service of people with physical dependency.
